Numbers

I've long been fascinated by relationship between mathematics and music. Whilst working on another project (as yet unreleased) I began to recognise how the brain creates patterns through seemingly random musical notes. The Numbers Project is in some ways the sibling of that project. It discards the 'random' elements in favour of seeking to play on how numbers themselves can inspire music. The project began in late 2025 with a piece in 7/8 time and has been followed through with most of the works related to their time signature (from three upward).

The first piece 'One' is released on the 5th February 2026. It was inspired by a beautiful Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark one repeated chord track 'Of All The Things We've Made' from their brilliant 1983 album Dazzle Ships. 'One' is nothing like that track, but takes a single chord and develops it into a two minute piece with orchestral, Irish and West African instrumentation.
